Chippenham Beginners Running Group

9 Week programme every Friday 6.30pm - 7.30pm at the Sports & Social Club

Are you interested in joining our beginners running club? It's a great opportunity to get fit and make some new friends. Our aim is to give you lots of support and encouragements to get you started and keep you motivated. Interested?, then why not come long and meet us ...... What have you got to lose?

Arrangements for July 2nd

This session takes place on Thursday 2nd July at Monkton Park, all meet in the Olympiad public car park at 7pm. Runners from the main Harriers club will join us and accompany you around the route of the River Run which is set to take place the following Wednesday evening July 8th. These are experienced runners who all know what it's like when new to running so don't worry about not being fast enough. It would be great if you could all join us back at Chippenham Sports Club after the run for a drink or two.

Registration

Since your first night will involve registration it would assist greatly if you could print off and fill in a registration form before you arrive. You can download a form by clicking here.

How fit do I need to be?

Our sessions are aimed at people who have either run in the past and want to make a 'running come back' or at complete beginners looking for a new activity to help them get fit. Our sessions will be organised into three groups:

  • The Beginner - this group will combine walking with running
  • The Intermediate - this group agains combines walking with running, however it will have longer running intervals
  • The Improver - aimed at current runners/returners this group will do a continous running effort

Record of weekly sessions

What happens if I can't make a session?

Don't worry if you are unable to make every session, we would love to see you every week but appreciate that you will have other commitments. Ideally it would be great if you can make the first session, as at this one we will do a full briefing of the planned 8 weeks. However after the first couple of weeks we will put the proposed schedule for that week on the website so if you are unable to make it you can try and schedule it in at some other time.

What should I wear?

As each of the sessions will involve raising the heart rate please wear comfy sports wear (e.g.: tracksuit, or shorts and Tshirt). We would strongly recommend that if you are planning to run frequently then you should invest in a pair of running shoes (we can advise further on this matter) otherwise wear comfy trainers. For the ladies we would recommend that you invest in a sports bra. Also please remember to bring some warmer clothes for after you have finished. We have shower and changing facilities should you require them.

What else should I bring?

We would recommend that you bring along a drink as it is very important to keep hydrated. In order to cover our costs we will be asking for a £1 contribution for each session. We now have lockers avilable for valuables, but these are left at your own risk.

Hopefully this covers all you need to know and we look forward to meeting you on the 8th May. However, if you do have any further questions then email
